Counsellors
Counsellors are vital to our organisation. Our counsellors come from all walks of life and are at different stages in their careers - from those on placement as they work towards full qualification with a recognised training body, through to accredited counsellors and those with specialisms in areas such as working with children and young people, families and couples.

All staff and volunteers will be required to provide references and some may be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
My take

I started my journey with The Counselling & Family Centre as a volunteer placement counsellor. When I first applied I lacked all the experience required and I needed to be persistent but was very happy to gain a place on my second attempt.
I was eager to get on, but it took some time to build up my client facing hours. I really benefited from the close supervision and training that I was given and could see this considered approach was right for both my clients and I.
The systems at CFC took a while to get to grips with but I saw how well they worked and it was brilliant to have such a friendly team in the office who helped booking my appointments.
CFC provided me with the chance to mix with more experienced counsellors via group supervision which was daunting but ultimately beneficial, and the subsidised training I was eligible for ensured I could develop my skills in the direction I felt best for me post-qualification.

The deadline for applications to our 2024 recruitment intake has passed. When the next volunteer / placement counsellor recruitment process begins again in 2025, if you would like to be considered, please read carefully as we are unable to enter into individual correspondence about placements before the process begins.
