Community Picnic

The Great Get Together

In Honour of Jo Cox

The Great Get Together is a chance for all of Altrincham's communities to gather in the park whilst living out the motto; 'We Are Far More United and Have Far More In Common Than That Which Divides Us.' MP Jo Cox, may she rest in peace, made this statement in her first speech to Parliament and it rings true today as much as ever before.

Saturday 22 June saw Altrincham's inaugural Great Get Together at Stamford Park and what a day! The sun came out, and while people basked, they enjoyed free entertainment with live music by local and diverse artists and bands, arts and crafts workshops, bouncy castles and slides plus much more whilst enjoying food and conversation. Local schools showcased bands and choirs and there was unique live entertainment including a Turkish folk band and a Blues Group!

Our very own Cafe in the Park had a stall providing cake, drinks and, from our brand new ice cream bicycle, a selection of ice creams and lollies.

The Great Get Together was co-sponsored by Altrincham Football Club, The Counselling & Family Centre, Altrincham and Hale Muslim Association, Fempower, Remembering Srebrenica, Nisa Nashim as well as many others.

The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16 June 2016. We believe there is a groundswell of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to bring our communities together and celebrate all that unites us.

Coronavirus. You are not alone. Let's beat social isolation together.
