Job Vacancy - Café Deputy Manager

Closing Date Midnight Monday 20th September

Interviews Friday 25th September

Please Note: This role will have a trial period during which you will be paid equivalent to National Minimum Wage. On successful completion of the trial period, you would be offered a full-time salaried position.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Daily Management of the Cafe

Staff and Customer Service

  • Prepare food and drinks to order in a timely manner and to a high standard

  • Ensure volunteers and sessionally paid staff are working to achieve agreed professional standards of customer service.

  • Ensuring there is cover for days that you are unable to work due to holidays.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure the kitchen and front of house areas are cleaned before and after service

  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety procedures

Food Management

  • Ensure all foods are prepared, cooked and stored in compliance with food hygiene and health and safety legislation

  • Monitor and record relevant steps and activities of food preparation and hot and cold storage to ensure food is safe for consumption using the Safer Food Better Business guidelines

2. Business Growth & Development

Training and Professional Development

  • Ensure suitable volunteers and sessionally paid staff are recruited to work in the café and that they are trained using our checklist.

  • Ensure that all staff are confident and competent in their role with regards to food hygiene. The Safer Food Better Business guidelines is kept in the café for reference.


  • With the support of the Centre Manager, plan and implement and evaluate the café on a regular basis in order that the café:

  • Continues to provide a healthy and varied menu

  • Is run professionally and profitably

  • Has procedures in place to facilitate its efficient running

3. Other

  • Work within the ethos of CFC through personal example, commitment and action, by ensuring fair treatment in employment, service delivery and external communications.


Experience required


  • Previous catering experience

  • Previous customer care experience


  • Supervisory experience

Skills required


  • Good understanding of the principles of food hygiene and preparation

  • Good understanding of health and safety issues and the ability to implement procedures to ensure compliance

  • Basic food preparation skills

  • Experience of stock control and budgeting

  • Experience of working as part of a team


  • IT experience of Word and Excel

  • Supervisory experience in a commercial catering environment


  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate

  • Other relevant qualifications
