Connected Parents - Understanding & Supporting Neurodivergent Children 

Connected Parents is a 6-week guided course designed to support, educate, and empower parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children. Whether your child is autistic, an ADHDer, has sensory differences, or another neurodivergent profile, this course offers a compassionate space to deepen your understanding, learn practical strategies, and build confidence in your parenting journey.

​Course Description

 

Over the six weekly sessions, you’ll connect with other parents, develop coping strategies, and explore ways to create a supportive environment where both you and your child can feel understood. 

 

This course is inclusive, non-judgmental, and rooted in neuro-affirming principles. It blends education, reflection, and connection through building a support network —we recognise that every family and every child is unique. 

Weekly Session Breakdown

 

Week 1 - Welcome & Foundations of Neurodiversity 

  • Understanding neurodiversity: shifting from a deficit model to a difference model 

  • Common types of neurodivergence (e.g. autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences) 

  • Exploring your hopes, challenges, and support needs as a parent 

  • Empowering People with language 

  • Challenging myths and stereotypes about neurodivergence 

 

 

Week 2 - How Neurodivergent Brains Work 

  • Key differences in how ND children think, feel, and process the world 

  • Executive functioning, sensory regulation, co-regulation & dysregulation 

  • The neurodivergent Nervous System 

 

Week 3: Communication & Connection 

  • Building trust and strong emotional connections 

  • Supporting non-verbal and alternative communication (incl behaviour) 

  • Understanding meltdowns vs. tantrums 

  • De-escalation Strategies & prevention 

 

 

Week 4: Practical Tools & Everyday Strategies 

  • Routines, transitions, and supporting emotional regulation (grounding  techniques) 

  • Navigating school, friendships, and social environments 

  • Supporting independence while providing scaffolding (EF Strategies) 

 

Week 5: Advocacy & Support Systems 

  • Navigating educational systems, EHCPs/plans, and rights 

  • Communicating with teachers and professionals 

  • Supporting Your Childs relationships with others 

 

Week 6: Self-Care, Strength, & Moving Forward 

  • The emotional load of parenting a neurodivergent child 

  • Reflecting on growth, challenges, and strengths 

  • Self-care, boundaries, and finding joy in your parenting journey
