  • Who is this course for?

    This course will benefit both therapists and other professionals working with people who have experienced trauma and are looking for
    ways to best support them.

  • Aims and Outcomes

    • Refreshing understanding of trauma presentations and treatments, including working with hyper- and hypo-aroused clients;
    • Understanding when to work in Phase 2 -indications and contra-indications of benefit;
    • Understanding the additional features of Complex trauma;
    • Revisiting the importance of attachment styles, particularly disorganised attachment,
    • and how these can affect the therapeutic relationship;
    • Introduction to structural dissociation and the benefit of working with ‘parts’;
    • Opportunity to discuss own cases;
    • Understanding vicarious trauma and how best to promote own self-care.

     

    This training will assume a basic understanding of trauma presentations and some experience of supporting these. It aims to deepen this understanding and introduce new concepts in responding to the particular challenges of this client group

  • Trainer

    Penny Bullock, MSc (Psychological Trauma), MProf Studies (Psychological Trauma), BSc., Post-grad. Cert. in Supervision, PGCE, MBACP(Snr. Accred.)


    Penny has worked as a counsellor, both privately and within the NHS for over twenty-five years, with adults and young people, specialising in trauma. She has been a clinical supervisor for 15 years and has delivered training to a wide range of professionals. Penny retired in 2023 and is now bringing her clinical expertise to the role of Trustee for The Counselling & Family Centre.
